In this variation, Mr. Bennett has passed away just after Darcy's first proposal. Jane is taken in by the Gardiner's as governess to their children in London. To support the family, Jane has married a milliner and is now a shopgirl. Aunt Phillips has taken in Mrs. Bennet and Elizabeth's sisters in her crowded rooms in Meryton and Charlotte and Mr. Collins are living in Longbourne. Meanwhile, Darcy cannot forget Elizabeth and despite the family's much reduced circumstances, he is haunted by the memory of her. A great read, full of misunderstandings, stolen kisses and secret yearnings. True in style to the original, but told from both sides. A bit repititious in spots, so I only gave in 4 stars, but the concept is a 5 star story!
