Tabitha has been carrying on the family duties of being a midwife. Unlike most midwives, she is unmarried. Her fiance' went out to sea in England and has yet to return. She has given up waiting for him because she is upset with him for leaving her as he did. She's waited for years.

Tabitha blames God for the losses in her lives. She has given up, because a loving God won't allow cruel things to happen, but that is all she sees around her. She also has to carry deep secrets for many mothers who give birth.

Dominick comes from England and is working as a bondsman for the mayor. He has a lot of burdens that he carries where he believes he must continue to be punished for the wrongs he has done, even if it means being a lowly servant instead of with an aristocratic family. He sees a woman on the shores and falls for her. It is Tabitha. Will they be able to work their relationship out?

I liked it. The relationship was built up very well and I love a good clean romance book.
