An orphanage in the slums of 1871 London is the only home 13 yr old Sarah Matthews has ever known. Then suddenly her world is turned upside down when Dorthia Blake seeks her out as a live-in companion. Sarah is whisked away from poverty to a luxurious lifestyle in London's prestigious Berkeley Square and is ultimately adopted by the wealthy widow.

Lonely Dorthia, however, has a secret agenda. Her real reasons for adopting Sarah are far beyond what others could possibly know or imagine. And the secrets she harbors may end up consuming her heart and making Sarah an outcast in the society she's grown to love.
