Charlotte's father wanted a son but got a daughter, so he raised her as if she were a boy. Roland's father wanted money to pay his debts and tried to make a match for Charlotte and Roland, but Roland angrily refused. Charlotte overheard his bitter words and was much hurt by them. Now six years later Roland has returned as the new Earl of Amberleigh. He and Charlotte are strongly attracted to one another but the old issues rankle. I liked this book because it's character driven, respects the mores of the period and pleasantly written.
