This is the second Doctor Who novel I've read and I know that the first one I read was okay. It was a little hard to get through mostly because the plot was only semi-interesting. After reading the summary of this one I figured that it might be a lot more interesting and was expecting it to be along the lines of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow or something.

It wasn't. It had its moments here and there (mostly with the Doctor) where he would be as witty as he usually is in the show but then there were also the parts (the majority of the book) that seemed to drag on and on. I was trying to pinpoint if there was anything in this book that actually made me scared but really when you have possessed leaves and tree roots coming after you it's harder to take seriously.

Another thing that really bugged me was the dialogue. Now, I know that the author and the world of Doctor Who are British but when you have the people of this New England town saying "torch" and various other British-isms it kind of loses its feel. What also annoyed me was *how* the characters talked because it just didn't sound reasonable. When you have a British man writing dialogue for American children please make it more accurate.

Like I said, I didn't *hate* the book, but I didn't really enjoy it as much as I had anticipated which was a real bummer.
