I've never been a die-hard fan of Carla Kelly's, the type who seeks out every one of her books, but those I've stumbled upon over the years have been real winners--including this one! Kelly can write romance, and she skillfully includes all the gritty emotions that make falling in love real. Lord Win and Roxanna have their share of problems to hurdle, but what I like is that they tackle them together (well, mostly, when one or the other isn't being too stubborn). My only beef is that there aren't any sexy bits! Not one. *sigh* I know this is Kelly's style (and thank goodness she keeps 'god talk'--as another reviewer puts it--to a minimum), but all these emotions have to channel somewhere, right? Nevertheless, my personal preference doesn't get in the way of enjoying this absolutely lovely, satisfying tale and an easy addition to my top read list of this year. 4.5 stars.
