I found the book to be enjoyable fiction. Yes, the book was heavy on the guns, but what did you expect? I found some the practices in the book to be unpractical but that too is to be expected. I enjoyed the story as I do many 'end of the world' books. I enjoyed the author's take on how he thought the population would react to the break down of society.
I did find it amusing that the characters, seemingly normal average people, could kill 'bad' people and not have any true remorse. I was extremely upset at a huge error in the transfusion protocols that the author explained to save a characters life. I also found some other medical mistakes that were more forgivable. But, the transfusion compability between blood types was a mistake that almost put me off the whole book. I realize that most people wouldn't understand the mistake but to me a Lab Tech it was alwful. My husband disagreed with some of his gun facts.
I think the reason that the mistakes upset me is because the book was written almost as a survival manual. In that format misinformation should not be offered.
Overall an enjoyable read. Take it for what it is and you too shall enjoy the book.
