One of the ten or twelve books I have sought and bought in order to press upon my children for their enjoyment. Mr. Seldes was a well-known journalist and author (all of his books are now highly collectible; his mid-1930's analysis of Mussolini is classic in the World Wars of a Liberal-Socialist and anti-Fascist bent. In his old age, he assembled this heavy volume of one-liners and short paragraphs from the last 2500 years or so of human thought. A classic collection. One of the true five-star books of all time.
