Excellent book. While some reviews I've read have criticized that little time in the book is devoted to the author's description of heaven, the most important and encouraging facet of the book to me was the evidence of the power of prayer. When you think things are hopeless, powerful and faithful prayer can change things. I'm encouraged about the author's description of heaven, but even more so that when it seemed all hope was gone, one mans faithful prayer moved God to act in a dying/dead mans favor. And when we can't pray for ourselves, the prayers of the righteous in our behalf are powerful and effective.
I did find the book to be repetitive at times on some points, but sometimes this was helpful in reinforcing some information that I had glossed over or not fully understood the first time. Overall, I found Pipers story inspiring and faith building not so much on the point that heaven exists and that it is a wonderful place, but that God is faithful and hears my prayers in the here and now.
