I was charmed by this book, a story of two old friends who started selling rare books together in the 1940s. The book moves back and forth between their voices as each tells her story, and this can be distracting at first, but becomes easier to follow as you get to "know" each woman's voice. Stern and Rostenberg were literary pioneers who not only sold books, but also wrote books, and Stern's discovery of Louisa May Alcott's sensationalist fiction changed forever the way we view Alcott now.
