When Dana comes into the entry way where she left her daughter and finds her 6 year old disabled daughter not there, she thinks she is hiding from her, one of her favorite things to do. After Dana searching the house, Baily is no where to be found and then her shoe is found in the street in front of the house. The theory is that someone angry that Dana's lawyer husband is defending an accused child killer has kidnapped Baily as punishment to Dana and her husband. Dana heads up a taskforce housed in her church to keep the public aware of Baily's kidnapping. 3 months later, Baily is found sitting on the front porch of her home, unhurt but will not speak. As the family tries to cope with Baily's selective mutisum and the publics anger at the lawyer who is defending an accused child killer, their lives start to unravel. I must admit, I had a hard time getting into the story at first, but soon became involved. It is a good book and let's us glimps into the characters lives and understand their pain.
