The fourth in the series featuring Detective Kubu, the rotund police detective from Botswana. Kubu has a new detective, Samantha Khama, who's very concerned about the case of a missing girl. None of the other police are taking it very seriously, but Samantha is afraid the girl like others before her has been kidnapped for muti, a witch doctor's potion containing human remains. Soon there are other crimes that point at the involvement of a mysterious witch doctor, a person who claims to be invisible. The Botswana location makes it somewhat exotic to me, and Kubu is a very appealing character - he's smart and analytical, he loves to eat, he loves his family and his dog. I think Samantha, who's determined to make her way into the current male-dominated profession, is an excellent addition; we'll get some tension from the gender issue and Kubu will have another smart person whose views may not match his own. There's a little subplot about a young girl he and his wife are fostering. No problem for a new reader to start here.
