What a disappointment!
Christina Dodd was so busy wrapping up the overarching story, she forgot about the love story. We spent as much time with other characters as we did with Firebird and Douglas. It was nice to see the other characters but it felt like the main couple got short shrift.
Also in a departure from the other books, this one wasn't particularly steamy with only one love scene, late in the book. The ending was quite spectacular, in terms of the mythology and resolving the story of the icons, but even there, the love story resolved with more of a sputter.
