Sixth in the series, and probably better if you've read at least the immediately previous book in the series. Russ might be a widower now, but otherwise it's all the same - Clare inserting herself into law enforcement cases with the flimsiest excuse, and the two of them squabbling over it. The migrant worker theme is pretty timeless. I liked the new character, Hadley, although I think one complicated romance at a time is enough. It was a very fast read for me, I read it almost straight through. Lots of action, lots of suspense, and good sense of place as usual. Although maybe there were too many different dramas happening in the last quarter, and the mystery plot itself was a bit convoluted. The soap opera that is Russ and Clare seems to be in a happy place for the moment, even with Clare's phone call (even the most naive of readers could see that coming). Clare manages to total yet another car, but Spencer-Fleming gets a Stephanie Plum joke out of it. Anyway...I liked it.
