Early and very classic installment of Bonnie Bryant's long-running "Saddle Club" series. Carole, Stevie, and Lisa, three adolescent girls who take riding lessons at Pine Hollow Stables, are preparing for a gymkhana, a day of games and races. Unfortunately, the fourth member of their team is Stevie's brother Chad, who started riding because he has a crush on Lisa! Carole has met Kate Devine, a champion rider whose competitive streak has ruined the fun of riding for her. The individual plotlines all come together in a nice neat way, with plenty of insight and contemplation that's appropriate for this age range. More genuine and less formulaic than the later "Saddle Club" books. Kate Devine also appears in many of the later books. Please note that there is one ISBN for the old, new, and photo cover editions of this book.
