#3 in the series, and don't even think about starting with this one. There are sure a lot of places in this book where I thought "What the heck is going on? What does this mean? Where ARE they?". I made extensive use of the maps in the front not to mention the character list. Usually in a book if I'm that confused, I give it up. And yet...and yet this is different. Multitudes of gods and mythologies, a really interesting cast of characters, plus a very fluid reality make this an excellent high-fantasy series. Jame is so appealing, wanting to do the right thing which continually leads to near-disaster, from which she then has to save herself and those with her. She doesn't really want to be the avatar for the god of destruction, and she's fighting as hard as she can. And you can be sure if someone tells Jame a story, something out of legend, it's going to pop up for real. Tori is now realizing he can't just pack his sister off and not think about her again. I was sorry not to see Marc again but I do hope we'll get more of Kendrie. I thought Hodgell might do more with Jorin but if he has an expanded part it's not in this book. And I would have liked to have the plot moved ahead a bit more; this book was mostly Jame reeling from one misstep after another after deserting the Women's World. Still, good character development and we get some payoff for a few things that happened in the last book.
