Anthony Bourdain did not tell the story of Mary Mallon well. He seems to have based his book on the bias remarks of a health inspector of the day,George Soper.Mr. Bourdain seems to have did very little research for this book himself. He tends to ramble at times and tries to understand what it was like being a cook in the eighteen century.
Judith Walzer Leavitt does a tremendouus job of explaining how Mary Mallon was singled out as one of many hundred thousands of Typhoid carriers. Mary was the only one incarcerated for the rest of her life. This book has pictures of Mary Mallon where as Mr. Bourdain has none.
