This book is not for the faint of heart. It is loaded with foul language, sex, drugs and violence. The memoir is about the author's teens; which means that he was part of experiences which many of us do not realize are a part of our society at an age when shelter (from such) is expected. This is a fabric of our society, though, and to pretend it is not there, will not change the fact. These areas are virtual war zones, with very few answers how to change them or to save the children growing up in them.
He also writes about an alternative school stating: "school and education don't go hand in hand, that school and education can be as distant or as close as sex and love". The book will reach out to those who believe that there is a chance for these teens.
I received this book in a goodreads.com contest with the expectation of a fair/unbiased review.
