Second in the Cragg & Fidelis series, set in 1740s England. I liked the first one (A Dark Anatomy) better. Lots of historical detail about Parliamentary elections of the time and if you like political intrigue, there's that too. I guess I've had enough politics in real life because I did not want to read more of it. I really liked the way that the coroner and his friend the physician work out the murders, and the Aesop's fable that runs through the book is cool, although maybe a bit too convenient at the end. Great historical detail, Blake continues with good characters and sense of place, but in this book the pace was too leisurely for me, too many red herrings, and the politics made me want to skip a lot of pages. No problem if a new reader wants to start here.
