at age 21, Jean Aspen and her boyfriend paddle up a river they dont know the name of, to find a place to build a cabin in the Brooks Range, and to fend for themselves, literally. No stores, hospitals, gas stations, no civilisation. This is a chronicle of their struggles and their joys. In the first year, they nearly starved, and lived in a tent at 40 below zero, while they built a home. This author is the daughter of Connie Helmericks, Alaskan explorer and author. Good read!!
