It is most interesting reading this along with A Conflict of Visions by Thomas Sowell; a liberal intellectual, and a conservative intellectual, both trying to be scrupulously fair in describing and analyzing opposing worldviews. It is a difficult job, and I would not say that either Lakoff or Sowell does it perfectly, but both books do offer a lot of insight. Lakoff's best points seem to be the one's most overlooked: that worldviews are metaphors; that liberals and conservatives have more in common than we have differences; that the demonized stereotypes describe only small, extreme minorities in both groups. Those who use Lakoff's analysis to describe "what's wrong with conservatives" are, in my opinion, misusing it. We are a democracy of both liberals and conservatives *and we always will be*. We need to learn to talk together and work together. This book is just one beginning step toward doing that.
