An okay story, but not a gripping page-turner. This story was written just as the war in Europe was about to start; it was revised many years later, and is supposedly much different.
The writing is a bit old-fashioned, and although it's part ghost-story, it is mostly a mystery/thriller that reminded me a bit of The 39 Steps (although it all takes place in the house.) I thought it was a little too wordy and could have been trimmed a bit, but it was an okay read.
