This first in the series, takes pace in New York City during WWII. Rose Doyle O'Keefe works at the shipyard. Her boss, Bob Finch believes he is entitled to "favors" from the female employees. When he tries to force himself on Rosie, she bloodies his head with a stapler and runs out of the shipyard, Later he is found dead, from a blow to the head. Rosie is suspect number one, but Lieutenant Jack Riordan has doubts as to her guilt and he has five days to solve the murder. Woven through out the story is that of Rosie's missing husband, Billy. She believes he has gone off to war, but she has not heard from him in months.....but he has been seen in the local tavern just two weeks prior, with another woman......This was an OK read....I probably will read the next in the series to see what develops between Rosie and Riordan .....and Billy.....
