This is Max's (Marie's BF) and Dani's (Leo's BF) story. Marie and Leo were the couple from book 1 (Max and Marie grew up together and were engaged, but were never romantically interested in the other. Dani was Leo's neighbor and cousin by marriage (her ex was Leo's cousin). Max is a bit of a playboy and has dealt with an emotionally abusive father and indifferent mother his whole life. As the oldest he is also in line to inherit the dukedom. Dani is coming off break-up and pending divorce. She is "post-love" and has made a list of things she will never do for a man (and some of them are ones every woman should do- like never give up your life for his, etc).
Max and Dani first meet in book 1 and begin a friendship. As respective best "men" in their friends upcoming wedding, they decide to get to know each other better. This begins as a gradual friendship to lovers. It was slow-burn and their friendship developed over the course of the year.
I liked this more than the first book. Fans of Christmas Hallmark movies might like this (with a little steam).
