Maybe I'm the odd one out on this novel. I think that this book does a lot of things well, like communicating the despair and hardship that comes with living with and caring for a terminally ill family member. I didn't have any complaints about the structure or the characters, but I just didn't particularly enjoy reading this book for whatever reason, hence the rating. I felt like I was observing a lot of it from a distance and felt kind of clinically emotive in certain places but didn't really connect with it. NYT Top 100 books tend to be hit-or-miss with me so I guess this one overall falls solidly in the middle of the spectrum.
