I'm a very slow reader, but I found myself limiting how many pages I'd allow myself to read at a time, because I wanted the joy to last. That's how much I enjoyed this book. In several scenes throughout the book, the author's choice of wording struck me as so POETIC that I would literally pause, stop to absorb the words, then go back and re-read the passage. I don't do that very often when I read. Usually when I really enjoy a book, I tear through it as fast as I can. The story itself is charming, but the characters are so tangible and accessible that I really felt connected to them. The cadence or rhythm of the writing is very easy-to-read, it rolls along just as though you were watching a movie or tv. It is effortlessly descriptive. I'm excited to read other books by Billie Letts, because with this one, she clearly has an understanding of how to manipulate simple words to evoke deep emotions.
