I liked the first book in this series quite a bit, but the second one feels like it's just marking time. Elisa is having trouble governing the troubled nation, with the Inviernos infiltrating everywhere and even her own council maneuvering for power. Elisa learns something about the godstone that leads her on a dangerous journey. By the end, though, it doesn't seem like she's gotten anything for her efforts...she's roughly in the same position she was in at the beginning. The discovered relationship between her people and the Inviernos was interesting. There's going to need to be a lot happening if Carson is going to end this as a trilogy.
