I bought this book from a catalog sight unseen, and am not sure I would have purchased it had I realized it was over 1000 pages. It is extremely well researched and written, and could probably be used as a textbook for a course about the Brontes. It is a V E R Y detailed account of the entire Bronte family, including how many weddings and funerals the father conducted each year, and stories and poems created by the younger generation as children. The text of approx. 980 pages is followed by over 140 pages of notes. I read about 200 pages and then skimmed the rest for parts that interested me. Two features I liked were headings on each page noting the year the narrative described on that page occurred, and the illustrations by various Brontes. Bottom line: If you are a fan of Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights, this may not be the book for you. If you are fascinated by a family that produced four authors, three of note, then this could be your cup of tea.
