Elizabeth Granford firmly resisted Somerset Graham, the Earl of Wentworth, as he sought to uncover the secret she was determined to hide.

Elizabeth also rejected the Earl's proposal of marriage most ladies would have leapt at. For she was someone who wanted nothing to do with wedlock and ever less with love.

But Elizabeth would have to go beyond her icy show of indifference if she intended to cool the Earl's persistent ardor.
