I don't think I've read a memoir like this. This is strange, graphic, disturbing, and funny. There's no child abuse, but Augusten definitely has an upbringing that is far from wholesome. I think much of what he says is exaggerated for the sake of telling a story. If you get squeamish easily or you're uncomfortable reading about same sex relationships, this book isn't for you but otherwise you might enjoy this unconventional memoir. His brother wrote "Look Me In The Eye" so you might want to read that to get another perspective of this family.
