This book is yet another example of a brilliant writer going sour when pressed for time.In my opinion, the flavor of this book shows that Cathy Hake was behind on the deadline, and was feeling none too romantic about her husband at the time. The book starts out well, with the heroine being a believable and lovable character and the hero being a lovable, irascable mess- it's all downhill from there: the hero become overbearing (and stays that way- I never saw an appreciable change), the plot was forced and ubrupt, the characters being reintroduced from previous books were almost unrecognizable, and there was no 'love story'. This book ended up being less of a 'happily ever after' and more of a 'he's mean and cutting to me and undermines my self-worth, but because he will take on the support of numerous family members/ people I know, I want to sleep with him.'
