Cass Claxton is on his way to St. Louis when he is forced to marry spoiled Suzanne McCord when she tells her father that Cass has compromised her. Seeing no way out, he goes through the mockery of a wedding. She promises to have the marriage annulled once she gets to her aunt's home in St. Louis. Six years pass before they cross paths again. Neither have bothered to follow through to end the marriage. Now Suzanne needs to relocate back to Kansas with nine orphans. Once again she tricks Cass into safely getting them to their new home. She promises that she will give him the annulment when they reach their destination. Suzanne's constant lies don't bide well with Cass, but the children are finding a place in his heart. Will Suzanne be able to keep her promise to free Cass?
