I couldn't stop reading this book even though I'm not usually into Southern Gothic Horror! I had many mixed feelings because this book throws a lot of things at you. Sure, reviews have talked about Steele Magnolias, but be sure to include Stephen King influences.
A Newcomer comes to town and builds relationships with the Southern Book Club members and their families. As the Newcomer ingratiates himself into their lives, families get out of whack. Patricia tries to take things in hand, but is rebuffed and ridiculed at every step. I definitely wanted to smack her at times. Eventually she succeeds in convincing her book club and they work on slaying vampires. I had a tough time with some graphic scenes, horrible husbands and racism. Still, it kept my interest.
