I am a fan of Shusterman's UNWIND and SCYTHE. I enjoyed this book but I didn't find it as compelling as those earlier works. It did keep me turning pages and it builds in intensity toward the end. It is mostly about humanity and what survival in a crisis brings out in us. It takes place in southern California over several days when there is suddenly no access to water. A series of nightmarish events brings this band of teenagers and one kid brother together on a journey fighting for survival. They are forced to make some life altering choices. I would suggest having bottled water at hand. This made me thirsty and also left me wanting to build a bunker and stockpile water. It is food for thought and good reading all in all.
