It is important to read these stories in order. Why? Daniels story actually starts in book one, THE TEXANS TOUCH. Daniels first wife, May, dies during childbirth, leaving a 20 year-old man to raise an identical pair of twin girls.

Because of Jodi Thomas description of Daniels grief in the first book, I knew his story (book 3) would be fascinating. Theres a telling interchange between Daniel and Karlee (Mays cousin, who has come to help tend the children).

Karlee asks what the twins names are. Daniel replies, I just call them twin. Karlee goes on the attack, like a warrior-mother. You mean you havent named your daughters? Theyre almost 4 by my account, and you still call them twin? Daniel forced himself not to step back with her advance and said, Ive been busy.

I didnt know whether to laugh or cry; Daniel has been doing his best, but he grew up as the youngest of 3 sons with no sisters. Hes still grieving the loss of May and trying to provide for his family.

Daniel finds himself in a whirlwind of trouble in Jefferson, Texas where a group of undying loyalists to the Confederate cause are fighting the injustices of Reconstruction (at the hands of the Union soldiers assigned to the area).

This is a richly woven love story of a man who needs more help than he knows and a woman who grew up as an unwanted orphan in Mays extended family.

This is an action-driven story that I couldnt put down until I finished it. Enjoy!
