I must say that this book was a great help in my recovery from disordered eating. I was always an intuitive eater (but didn't know it) until a few years ago when I decided to change my diet for health reasons. At first I was only binging on "bad" foods about every few weeks, but eventually I was overeating all of my "forbidden" foods on a daily basis. I had already made up my mind to get off of the health and diet bandwagon when I discovered the intuitive eating philosophy. This book really helped me put everything (including food) back into perspective and reminded me that my body really does know best. This book also helped me remember that healthy eating is about being healthy emotionally, as well.
I do want to note that one should read the WHOLE book. I skipped around at first and got frustrated when, in the beginning, my eating seemed to get more out of control. Then I discovered in the book where the authors describe a study where men held captive with little to no food sometimes took 5 months to balance out their eating after they were released. After reading that, I was able to trust myself and the process a lot more and relax, which actually sped up the process. I wish I had read that in the beginning (when I was supposed to!) instead of discovering it hidden in the pages much later.
