There are some hate reviews on Amazon. You should ignore them, as this is a very powerful and well-written book which deals with issues of race, friendship, family, and diversity. It is true that the cute kitty on the front doesn't clue you in that the issue is a character who is terrified of cats. But Janie's journey learning to accept the cat parallels her other journeys and it is done in intense, very relatable story-telling. It would have been better with a cover that better reflects the life-changing and powerful affect this book will have on the right reader.
