This book chronicles a family living in Jonesboro, GA in the early 50's. The author gives us a view of growing up poor and white in this era but not as poor as some of their neighbors, some facing the racial hatred by the KKK.
It shares the visit of the Goat Man and the Gypysies to Jonesboro. I enjoyed this trip back to my child hood and the visit to the small town similar to the one I knew as a child. Banana splits never tasted as good as they did then at the small soda shop she describes in her book.
