Helpful Score: 1
Yes, this book is WAY overhyped. Yes, it's got teen girls (and some grown women!) swooning and screaming and fainting. But the actual book itself is something you might not want to pass up, after all. It presents a unique take on the age-old vampire tale, and throws in a lot of forbidden love, angst, and some suspenseful action to round things out. It's extremely easy to read and is, honestly, in no way literary, but it's at the same time much better than romance-novel and chick-lit trash you can find everywhere nowadays. Pick it up if you're in any way interested. It's light reading with a genuinely interesting premise. Be warned, however: if you get into the story, and continue reading on through the next books in the series, the main character (Bella Swan) really does become almost an unbearable idiot several times. It's annoying, and she as a character is in no way a feminist, but other than that, enjoy!
