I really enjoyed this. Good romance, good characters, good worldbuilding. I think this leans a bit more toward Romance than SF, but the SF is solid and necessary.
The hero was terrific. Loved him! The heroine had believable motives for all her actions. I adored some of the background characters too and hope they show up later in the series. At least one, not so much. Couldn't stand him...but to tell would spoil the story.
I know some folks thought it was slow, but it's more a character story with action than an action story. Some have said in other venues that the sex/love is too soon, but I didn't think so. The characters' backgrounds make this totally plausible to me.
I will be reading the rest of the series based solely on the terrificness of this book, since I don't like to read spoilers and don't know anything about what happens next.
