As much as I liked this book, it is a hard one to read. It is not for the faint of heart. The message is one of truth and redemption, but both come after heart-wrenching tragedy, betrayal, and degradation. Although I would categorize this as a Christian novel, some Christians might be uncomfortable with the story. Issues of hypocrisy and abuse (emotional, physical, and sexual) make this a difficult novel to work through. It is well-written. I would recommend this for mature readers who want more than a casual read. If you have had to deal with any of these issues personally, I would also recommend that you read this book only if you have someone to discuss it with. Because it is well-written, it draws you in and can exact an emotional toll.
