Investigative Reporter Maxine Revere returns to her hometown to attend the funeral of a former friend. Back in high school, Kevin was a close friend to Max when he was accused of killing her best friend. Max defended him against everyone else, even her family. Now Kevin has committed suicide, but Max finds the people in this town are still upset with her. Many know of her investigative skills and believe that she has returned to try to clear Kevin's name. As Max sees how many people have jumped to this conclusion, she feels that there must be information that she can find on this unsolved case.
As Max begins delving into the murder of her best friend Lindy, she is approached by an elderly couple who ask her to look into the murder of their grandson, Jason Hoffman. Jason was shot to death six months ago. No one was ever arrested.
Max has her plate full with these two investigations. There are lots and lots of characters in this book. I had to start a list to keep track of everyone. There were many of twists and turns in this one which made the book hard to put down. We also learned a lot about Max's past and what drives her to investigate these cases. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
