Okay, not one of her best, set in the Windrose Chronicles universe. At first it was a little boring. But then Hambly springs Kyra's surprise story towards the middle and it gets more interesting. It's got a bit of a mystery plot, with Kyra trying to find out the threat to her sister. A little romance, not terribly convincing - really, falling into the lover's arms? Several times? And the magic part where I'm thinking Kyra made enough magical "noise" at the end that she's definitely gonna get convicted of interfering, but of course she won't. I'm also wondering if Hambly was thinking of the LGBTQ community when she wrote about her wizards - the heartfelt plea "I'm born this way, I can't stop being what I am" sure sounded like it, but if you follow that thread, the nature of the villain makes an ugly comparison. So I'm probably way off base with that. So - nice enough, still got good world-building.
