Davidson's books are not particularly literate, but they're amusing -- good for when you need a light distraction. Her books are full of simple characters who interact in stereotypical and not very complex ways, and the motives of her murderers are often difficult to believe. (For example, it won't give away too much to say that the murderer in The Cereal Murders carries out the killings in the highly unrealistic hope of boosting a certain prep school student's chances of getting into an elite college.) Notwithstanding their technical weaknesses, they're good for escape reading at the beach or before bed.
