A beautifully illustrated folk-story story of three trees and what the dream to become and what they do become: one grows up to be Jesus' manger, another a boat Jesus rode in, and the last a cross represents the best message of the resurrection of Christ. Children will be deeply touched as they understand, perhaps for the first time, the significance of Christ's life and his atoning sacrifice on the cross. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. This book is a must read - from parent to children or for the child to read alone.
There are several different versions of this story. In Catherine McCafferty's version of the folk-tale the trees are different types and have different strengths. In this story they are all the same but the message still comes plainly across. I would say this one is for younger readers. Folk-tales are often told in various ways.
