Wow, I dont think Ive ever read a book with such a twisted ending! I didnt see that coming and while it still leaves the reader guessing to some extent, it gets you thinking and the story lingers in your mind. I think this would make an excellent movie.
The book is set in 1954, which takes some getting used to as; of course, there are no cell phones, computers, internet, etc. But whereas I was a little afraid that would make me lose interest, I didnt find it to hinder the storyline at all. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, with a new partner by the name of Chuck, arrives on Shutter Island via a long ferry ride. They are there to investigate the disappearance of a murderess (Rachel Soldano). Housed on the island is the Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane and they find it to be locked down tight, so how did Rachel escape? While there, a hurricane hits, shutting down power and causing more problems. Teddy and Chuck use old-school, tried and true detective skills, but beware, all is not what it seems on this remote, hostile island!
