Although I love history, this book was only moderately interesting. Part of the problem was the fact that I listened to a talking book and the reader was awful. Unfortunately, the reader was one of the authors. I'd never heard the name Brian Kilmeade before taking up this book. Now I find that this man cohosts 'Kilmeade and Friends.' The man spoke too quickly and was amused by occasional plays-on-words. I found him irritating. I feel that authors seldom made good readers.
Putting that aside, I'd heard SO MUCH about this book (adulation) that I expected the characters to walk on water. The most interesting fact I learned was that Nathan Hale was caught by the British (as a spy), very soon after he started. Of course, we all know he was hanged for being a spy before his 25th birthday.
The authors implied that the Secret Six were the reason that Benedict Arnold was unable to turn over West Point. Poppycock.
In my opinion, this book promised more than it gave. However, I don't want to be too tough on this book because I met people who haven't read a book in 30 years oohing and aahing over this slender tome. Any book that can encourage reading is to be congratulated.
