Aundy Thorsen leaves Chicago to become a mail-order bride in Pendleton, Oregon. Soon after marriage, there is a terrible accident, leaving Aundy alone on the farm. Although this was a time when women did not run ranches or farms, Aundy took up the mantle of leadership over the men who worked for her husband.

Fortunately, the Nash family lives nearby and offers Aundy all their help. She has much to learn. When she brings sheep to the cattle area, trouble brews. However, Aundy is a very stubborn woman, and she doesn't take failure lightly. Garrett Nash realizes he has feelings for Aundy but must wait until she is ready.

There was one instance (when she dressed as a man and went to the Underground that was quite preposterous. Otherwise, this book flowed smoothly and kept the reader's attention.
