Well-written as we expect from S.L.A. Marshall. He interviewed many of the participants in the year after this 'skirmish,' while the Vietnam War continued. 150 GIs defended Landing Zone Bird in Binh Dinh Province against 800 North Vietnamese regulars who overran them on 25 December 1966.
Note the photos of the enemy dead taken on December 26th. The tale is told from the standpoint of those on the ground and those trying to relieve them (winter weather).
If this was used as material in a history class that emphasized reading, interested students could read "Livengood and Shlenker' pp. 48-56 and :From ARA with Love: pp. 109-125 to get an appreciation for what it was like fifty years ago.
