Salvador de Madariaga's "The Heart of Jade" is up there with the best historical novels ever written, which is a very select few. I can say this because I've been reading historical novels for over sixty years. It ranks with "the Accursed Kings" novels of Maurice Druon or Mika Waltari's "the Egyptian", and that is heady company indeed.
